The sublittoral zone is in the benthic environment. The benthic environment is divided into 5 different zones based on its depth. The ocean floor is divided even further into ecological zones based on the different types of benthos that live there! Our zone is in the sublittoral zone by the low- tide limit. The Sublittoral zone ends at the continental shelf, about 200 meters below sea level. The Sublittoral zone starts at the end of the intertidal zone, and ends as the continental shelf where the Bathyal zone starts. The sublittoral zone is way more stable than the intertidale zone. The organisms that are in the sublittoral zone are always covered by the ocean water. Finally in the sublittoral zone sediment on the ocean floor helps determine where the organisms live!

The sublittoral zone starts where the intertidal zone ends. That area is called the low-tide limit. The sublittoral zone reaches about 200 meters below sea level. The sublittoral zone ends at the edge of the continental shelf. The sublittoral zone is way more stable then the intertidal zone. The organisms that are in the sublittoral zone are always covered by the ocean water. Finally in the sublittoral zone the sediment on the ocean floor helps determine where the organisms live in the sublittoral zone.

Giant Clams are the largest mollusks on Earth. They can grow to be 4 ft. and can weigh more than 500 lbs. The reason these clams get so big is because they consume sugars and proteins made by the algae that make a home in their tissues.
Giant Clams like warm water such as the South Pacific and Indian Oceans.
