Giant Clam

Giant Clams are the largest mollusks on Earth. They can grow to be 4 ft. and can weigh more than 500 lbs. The reason these clams get so big is because they consume sugars and proteins made by the algae that make a home in their tissues.
Giant Clams like warm water such as the South Pacific and Indian Oceans.
The Giant Clam has a muscle called the adductor that opens and closes its shell. The adductor muscle is considered to be a tasty treat for humans. Because of this, it is listed on a "vulnerable animals" list.
Once the Giant Clam finds a home on a reef, it fastens itself to the reef and stays there its whole life. Thanks for reading information about our huge animal underwater the Giant Clam.
